Building a cosmic ray detector

The basics required for a cosmic ray (muon) detector are:

  • At least two detectors which can measure ionizing radiation.
  • A jig to hold detectors one above the other.
  • Some non-ferrous shielding to go between the detectors.
  • Electronics to monitor coincidence between the two or more detectors.
  • Electronics to monitor and/or display when a  coincidence has occurred between the two or more detectors.
